A generalist paralegal certificate is for entry-level students, and a specialized certificate is for a specific legal field. Both require at least a high school diploma while a specialized certificate also requires previous paralegal experience. Certificates can be obtained through online or in-person classes and take between 10 and 18 months to complete.

Potential students are able to earn a graduate paralegal certificate while being an undergrad and can even apply the credits earned to an M.A. in Law. For potential students that already have a B.A., the program allows for a paralegal certificate to be earned in less than a year. As with the undergrad program, moving forward to the M.A. program is also an option.
You can apply for enrollment online. You will need transcripts of your graduate and/or undergrad work. For those enrolling with a B/A, you must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and come from a university or college that is accredited. The fees per credit range between $450 and $700, however financial aid is available for those who qualify.

Herzing University

They offer an A.S. degree program in paralegal studies. This degree is a great foundation that will help land entry-level positions on the path to a promising career as a paralegal. Herzing also offers a B.A. program in legal studies and 93 credits from the A.S. program can be transferred upon completion. an A.S. paralegal degree can be completed in as little as 20 months and the program also offers NALA certification exam preparation as part of the course. To enroll you will need to submit your high school or undergrad transcripts for review. There are also entrance exams required for admission. Tuition fees vary depending on the state of residence and any financial aid provided.

North Hennepin Community College

North Hennepin Community Colleges offers students an affordable way to start their careers as outstanding paralegals. The school offers both an A.S. and Certificate in paralegal courses. They also offer other legal specialty courses for those who want to further their education. In order to apply for a paralegal certificate, students must first complete an A.S. in art or science. Also, those that have a B.A. or higher may apply for a certificate after the completion of their paralegal courses.

Classes are held in the evening which is ideal for those with full-time jobs or other commitments. Another advantage of the paralegal programs offered by North Hennepin Community College is that they have American Bar Association approval. In order to qualify for a specialty course, you must have completed at least 9 semester credits in person. To enroll, you will need to send in an admission request that contains your past transcripts and other educational information.

Inver Community College

Inver Community College offers ABA-approved paralegal certificate and degree programs for their students. Classes are mainly in person but have been moved to partial online hosting in response to health concerns. The school has provided paralegal programs to local and national students since 1978. It offers comprehensive training to students which will give them an in-depth look at the law and common legal procedures. The school also offers an in-house practical internship which will further help those looking to expand their career as a paralegal.

Both Associates in Science Degrees and Post-Graduate Paralegal Certificates are available. To apply you will need at least a high school diploma or equivalent. You will need to submit transcripts from your past high school or university along with any information regarding credit transfers.
